Why Give?

The DeSoto County Historical Society, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of DeSoto County, Florida for future generations.

You may ask, why is my donation needed, and how will it be used?

[1]  The DCHS may be best known for our programs. This is one of the fundamental ways we deliver on our mission of sharing the history of our city and county.  Your donation provides the financial resources for us to produce each season a full schedule of stimulating, educational events.

[2]  Your contribution helps us preserve our county’s history.  The DCHS Archives, accessible to the public on our website, 200-plus binders as well as other research materials digitally stored items, including family letters, newspaper articles, photographs, postcards, and audio recordings.

[3]  Your support helps us maintain our History Museum, A restored, late-nineteenth century home, the John Morgan Ingraham House Museum, 300 N. Monroe Avenue, Arcadia, is a memorial to all early pioneer families of the City of Arcadia and DeSoto County. It showcases a simple kind of “Florida Cracker” architecture and lifestyle and includes furniture and artifacts from that period, as well as exhibits about the area’s history.

[4] It’s donor support that provides the funds to provide a scholarship to a worthy candidate, to help towards further their education.

We know you have many worthy charitable requests: we appreciate your support at any level.  We hope you will consider a gift to the DCHS, helping us keep DeSoto County history in our future.

THANK YOU!

Special Thanks

We would like to give a special Thank You to Valerie and Curtis Fort of Box N Out in Arcadia for contributing the funds for this new website creation and to 3 Shades of Blue Web Design for donating the time and expertise to create it. Without their help, we would not be able to present our history to the general public.
